Rocking Chair Challenge

Recently I had the opportunity to meet Scott Lehman while selling fireworks in Thompson Station.  He is the founder of “In His Grip.”  He lives through his passion within his calling, and the surge of energy from  him was powerful.

A while ago he and his wife did the “rocking chair challenge.”  His wife asked if he had regrets, and he did.  So did she.  At the age of 50ish, they were not parents.  No children.  Over the next few years, one thing lead to another and people were put into their lives that continued to kindle the idea of having a family which eventually led to adoption.  Listening to him tell the story was captivating.

Scott shared how this child had changed his complete outlook on life…everything was a first for this child (new to America).  The joy that ran through the child radiated through his unbelievable smile in each photo that he shared.  Scott said this child was a game changer for him in every imaginable way.

So we all know, rocking chair challenges are when you sit in a rocking chair, imagining yourself older, near the end of your days, and reflect over your life.  This challenge aligns your decisions and shifts them into perspective.  It’s a time to look inside yourself and discover who you really are.

As I reflected over this story, I couldn’t get the idea of “game changer” out of my head.  We are approaching a new school year.  Who knows what “game changers” are out there.  One thing we can be sure of is this…they are out there.

Will you embrace the game changers and allow yourself to see the situation in every imaginable way?  Will you  “sit in the rocking chair” and make sure the decisions you are making are ones that will lead to end results that make you feel fulfilled and touch the lives of others?  Are you willing to work for solutions?  Expand your own knowledge? Be the positive pillar among your colleagues?

You never know…YOU could be the game changer for Murfreesboro City Schools.  All it takes is one rocking chair challenge to change your life forever.

Ask Scott.
